Oman signs pact for Tanzania port project

Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport & Communications, participated yesterday in the signing ceremony of the agreement on construction and development of the Port of Bagamoyo in Tanzania.
Jakaya Kikwete, President of Tanzania was also present during the signing of pact and laying of foundation stone of the project.
The Sultanate, represented by the State General Reserve Fund along with the Government of Tanzania and China Merchants Holdings (International) Group would invest in the construction and development of the Bagamoyo Port Project, which includes the port’s duty free zone.
The investment in the construction and development of the port and its free economic zone is expected to generate revenues for the Sultanate.
The project would offer investment opportunities to the Omani companies and businessmen along with the expansion in the new African markets and help in the import of raw materials.
The signing ceremony was attended by Said bin Hamdoon Al Harthy, undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport & Communications for Maritime Affairs; Sheikh Yahya bin Abdullah Al Fannah Al Araimi, head of economic affairs sector at the foreign ministry; Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Ruqiashi, the Sultanate’s ambassador to Tanzania; Sheikh Abdullah bin Saleh Al Saadi, the Sultanate’s ambassador to China; Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, Executive President of the State General Reserve Fund representative of the Ministry of Finance and a number of officials. -ONA
