More glory for Omantel at CCGA Awards 2020

Omantel has been going from strength to strength and has now won even more international recognition for its innovative strategy. Omantel Wholesale emerged winner at the 4th Carrier Community Global Awards (CCGA) 2020- Berlin, Germany, walking away with top honors in the Best Data/Capacity Provider of the Year and the Middle East Regional Operator of the Year categories, which is a prestigious achievement and a global recognition of its achievements in the wholesale business as a regional leader.

Omantel Wholesale, the company’s international arm providing services and solutions to carriers and content providers outside of Oman, was selected among global telecom companies being recognized for innovations and achievements in the telecom wholesale industry by a panel of 13 international and independent telecoms analysts and industry experts.

Laying the foundation for Omantel’s strong contention at this year’s awards were several measures from 2018 where Omantel, under its Global Wholesale Transformation Project, took great strides in expanding its presence internationally in the Subsea Cable market and in restructuring its offerings to facilitate the growth of cloud, content, and next-generation communication globally, some of these achievements are:

• Being the European, and Omani, landing party of one of the world’s largest subsea cable system, the AAE-1, connecting Singapore and Marseille, with Oman in the middle;
• Landing of the Gulf 2 Africa subsea system in Somalia as Omantel’s first step towards expansion into Africa;
• Launch of its international wholesale company, Omantel International (OTI), which currently manages international voice business of the group;
• The imminent opening in Q3 2020 of the first world-class, carrier-neutral hub in Oman where carriers, content providers and cloud providers can co-locate critical IT infrastructure under the complete management of Equinix; and
• Launch of a new state-of-the-art 24/7 International Network Operations Centre (INOC), specifically tailored to the needs of the cloud and content-centric market, monitoring and supporting Omantel’s international terrestrial or submarine cable systems.

Omantel’s global infrastructure consists of over 20 international submarine cable systems connecting all the way from Oman to the West and East coasts of the USA serving a potential subscriber base of more than 2 billion people through direct access to more than 50 countries and 120 cities in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and North America. Omantel generated in 2019 a revenue of $ 6.733bn.
