A top-notch institution rising above the expectations
After years of planning and preparation, the American University of the Middle East (AUM) started its operations in 2008 and the chapters of its success story began to unfold.
From humble beginnings, a small building and only hundreds of enrolled students in the first few years, AUM became within the last 10 years a landmark in the private education sector in Kuwait and the region through its curricula, integrated campus and educational philosophy.
Today, AUM has more than 10,000 enrolled fulltime students, and a university campus which is considered as the largest and most beautiful among private university campuses in the region.
Following the motto “Knowledge Beyond Education”, AUM harmoniously combines theory with application in order to create a solid learning environment through various programmes, preparing its graduates for an active integration in multidisciplinary technical environments.
AUM has two colleges – the College of Business Administration and the College of Engineering and Technology. AUM College of Business Administration offers majors in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management Information System and Human Resources Management, that is in addition to a Master’s degree programme in Business Administration (MBA). Furthermore, AUM College of Engineering and Technology offers majors in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Information Systems and Technology, and Telecommunications and Networking Technology.
Striving to meet the highest academic international standards, AUM’s Bachelor’s degree programmes in Industrial, Computer and Electrical Engineering have been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The Telecommunications and Networking Technology (TNT) has been accredited as well by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, which is the global accreditor of college and university programmes in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology.
Furthermore, AUM continues its plans and preparations towards receiving the ABET accreditation for the remaining offered majors at the College of Engineering and Technology and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation for the College of Business Administration.
Modern Library
AUM Campus exhibits a state-of-the-art library offering a wide range of scientific data and references and a rich collection of print and electronic resources, and databases accessible on-campus and off-campus. An HD cinema is also available for research and documentaries, as well as meeting rooms for student projects and teamwork.
AUM Sports Center
AUM Campus also comprises a Sports Center that includes fully equipped gyms for individual exercise and physical activity and offers sports indoor and outdoor playgrounds including a FIFA certified football field, a full-size court for basketball, volleyball, tennis, futsal, handball and a multi-purpose aerobics halls for lower impact athletic purposes, as well as running and cycling tracks.
AUM has 11 sports teams consisting of around 120 students representing the university annually in local and international competitions. AUM also holds the record for the most Universities Athletics Association in Kuwait (UAAK) championships won during its playing career.
AUM Cultural Center
On the cultural front, the university has established a Cultural Center that holds an Opera House accommodating over 1500 persons and designed to meet the highest standards of international opera theaters.
AUM Cultural Center also includes seminar halls, in addition to a Conference Center providing a range of integrated hosting services events, as well as a spacious hall to host art events and workshops.
AUM Research and Innovation Center
Since innovation is at the heart of AUM’s mission, the university prides itself on its recently developed Research and Innovation Center that includes a fully equipped robotics research center, and consists of five main areas: Fabrication Facility, Motion Capture and Aerial, Humanoid Research Lab and Robotics Club Workshop.
The Research and Innovation center comprises also the first phase of the Nanotechnology Research Center established in collaboration with Purdue University in the United States of America.
AUM Career Development Center
One of the main pillars of the educational experience at AUM are the services offered by the University’s Career Development Center. The center seeks to support and assist students and graduates by preparing them to enter the job market through different workshops and information sessions.
Leadership, communication, innovation, work ethics and entrepreneurship are few of many topics that students are exposed to, to help them build a successful career. The center also organizes events throughout the year, like the Annual Career Fair, seeking to build a close relationship with the companies and institutions operating in Kuwait to fill the gap between educational curricula and the requirements of the labor market.
In addition to the above, AUM Campus also includes lavish green open spaces, ponds, an outdoor amphitheater, numerous cafeterias and restaurants, 2 multi-storey car parking complexes to provide safe parking spaces for students, and a wide range of high-tech labs and facilities. All of these facilities and services are put at the disposal of AUM students to enhance their practical skills, and therefore enable them to be more competitive in the job industry following their graduation.
As AUM takes the less traveled road in offering unconventional education for its students, the university is set to becoming an innovative learning hub, offering an educational environment that nurtures students’ personalities in various aspects, so they grow up to be leaders in their community and offer pioneer innovative solutions for a better future.
