After Jack Dorsey stepped down as CEO of Twitter on Monday, Indian-American Parag Agrawal was appointed the new CEO of the microblogging platform. Several other big technology companies are being run by CEOs who are either Indian or of Indian origin, and Agrawal is the latest addition to the list.
SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter on Monday to praise Indian talent and said greatly it benefits the United States. He tweeted, “USA benefits greatly from Indian talent!”
Parag Agrawal – CEO, Twitter
He holds a PhD in computer science from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay.
Sundar Pichai – CEO, Google
Pichai earned his degree from IIT Kharagpur in metallurgical engineering. Moving to the United States, he attained an M.S. from Stanford University in materials science and engineering and further attained an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar, respectively.
Satya Nadella – CEO, Microsoft
Nadella attended the Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet before receiving a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology in Karnataka in 1988. Nadella then travelled to the U.S. to study for an M.S. in computer science at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee,
[18] receiving his degree in 1990. Later, he received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 1997.
Arvind Krishna – CEO, IBM
He did his schooling at Stanes Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu and at St Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun before receiving a BTech degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1985. He subsequently moved to the United States to earn a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1991. He is the recipient of distinguished alumni awards from both IIT, Kanpur and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Raghu Raghuram, CEO, VMWare
Raghuram held product management and marketing roles at AOL, Bang Networks and Netscape. Raghuram holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
Shantanu Narayen – CEO, Adobe
He earned a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication engineering from the University College of Engineering, Osmania University in Hyderabad. He moved to the United States to complete his education, and in 1986 received a master’s degree in computer science from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. In 1993 he received an MBA from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley.
Nikesh Arora – CEO, Palo Alto Networks
Arora completed his schooling at The Air Force School (Subroto Park), and went on to graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, BHU in Varanasi, India with a Bachelor of Technology degree in electrical engineering in 1989. He holds a degree from Boston College and an MBA from Northeastern University. He has held the CFA designation since 1999.
Anjali Sud – CEO, Vimeo
Sud was born in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Indian immigrants. She grew up in Flint, Michigan. In 1997, at age 14, Sud left Flint to study at Phillips Andover Academy, a private school in Andover, Massachusetts.
Sud graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 2005, with a B.Sc. in Finance and Management. In 2011, she received her MBA from Harvard Business School.
Jayshree Ullal – CEO, Arista Networks
Ullal was born in London and raised in New Delhi, India, through her school years. She eventually attended San Francisco State University where she graduated with a B.S. in engineering (electrical). She went on to Santa Clara University where she received a master’s degree in engineering management.
