Star Wars has an expansive universe with canon content existing side by side with existing content pre – Disney content known as legends. In addition to the movies, there is no better way to live through the Star Wars universe, than in the form of video games. Below is a list of games that embody and advance upon the Star Wars lore, breathing new life into the universe:
Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order – This latest swashbuckling entry into the Star Wars series is set between the fall of the Old Republic and the Rise of the Empire. You follow the perspective of Jedi Padawan, Cal Kestis, as he narrowly survives the purge of the Jedi Order due to the infamous Order 66. As part of this authentic Star Wars story, fans will delve into a galaxy recently seized by the Empire. As a Jedi hero-turned-fugitive, players will need to fight for survival while exploring the mysteries of a long-extinct civilization all in an effort to rebuild the remnants of the Jedi Order as the Empire seeks to erase the Jedi completely.
Star Wars Battlefront series – The reboot of the massively popular Battlefront series by EA and DICE, has two entries with the first Battlefront paying homage to the classical locales of the original trilogy. It is the second entry that comes with an enthralling storyline that effectively depicts what happened to post the defeat of Emperor Sheev Palpatine, at the Battle of Endor and the destruction of the Second Death Star, the planet-killing superweapon. With a fun-filled Multiplayer option to boot, this is a reboot that has been acclaimed over the years since, its release in 2017 as a worthy successor to the classics with a gripping storyline and lovely graphics.
Star Wars Battlefront Series (Classic) – The old classic from 2005, this series was part of the legends canon. It was one of the first games to focus on a perspective other than that of a Jedi knight or a pilot. Action-packed and with a campaign detailing the story of the famed 501st Legion as it battles enemy forces through the Clone Wars era as well as the Imperial era. It was one of the first stories to portray the Jedi as being less than the knights in shining armour. Nearly 16 years old, it is an ‘oldie but a goldie’.
Star Wars: Squadrons – The latest in the series of pilot based simulators, Squadrons puts you in the cockpits of famed starships as you dogfight your way through iconic locales and take on mighty star destroyers.
Star Wars: Republic Commando – Another classic that holds up to its name and fame. Republic Commando is the only squad-based first-person shooter set in the Star Wars universe with a gritty storyline to follow. It chronicles the saga of four clone commandos from the famed ‘Delta Squad’ – Delta RC 1138 (Boss) [Player Character], demolitions expert – Delta RC 1262 (Scorch), the tactical mind – Delta RC 1140 (Fixer) and the hunting expert – Delta RC 1207 (Sev). With a storyline set between the Star Wars II – The Clone Wars & Star Wars III – Revenge of the Sith, it is yet another game which experiences the storyline from a clone’s perspective. Fans of the game can enjoy the game in full remastered glory on the Sony PS5 as well! With a Cliffhanger that has left fans on the hook for 15 years, this game is a good example of cinematic gaming done right with Temuera Morrison (Jango Fett) donning the role of Delta 38 and reprising his role of a clone warrior and a breath-taking soundtrack.
Star Wars KOTOR I & II – This legends game available on PC and Mobile, Knights of The Old Republic has set the bar for the best storytelling experience and role-playing game. Designed by Bioware (renowned for their storytelling skills in games), this game is set 5,000 years before the events of the first Star Wars movie (the Phantom menace) and puts people in the shoes of a character who gets to experience the might of the Sith Empire at its peak glory. The storyline is gripping and given the inherent nature of “your choices matter”, this classic game allows for great replayability. We won’t spoil the story, go play it and explore tons of great content and solution to mysteries such as why Tatooine is deserted and Why Kashyyyk, the Wookie homeworld, is populated to the brim with the great Worshyr trees.
