Cirkopolis Blends Theatre & Circus in a Stunning Show at ROHM

The Royal Opera House Muscat hosted Oman’s premiere of Cirkopolis, the critically acclaimed show by Montreal-based troupe Cirque Éloize for three nights only May 3, 4, and 5.

With Cirkopolis, Cirque Éloize presented their breathtaking blend of circus arts, theatre, and dance in a highly-stylised metropolis setting. In front of a captivated audience, twelve acrobats and multidisciplinary artists rebelled against monotony, reinventing themselves and challenging the limits of the factory city.

Since the show began touring in September 2012, it has received rave reviews from the public and critics alike. The New York Times wrote: “There aren’t more beautiful [shows than Cirkopolis]”, while the New York Post wrote: “Extraordinary! There’s the circus, and then there’s Cirque Éloize. These guys are on a whole other level.”.

As a world-class venue, ROHM has welcomed internationally acclaimed shows this season, focusing on a diverse programme of performances especially popular with young and family audiences.

Cirkopolis was imagined as a crossroads—between imagination and reality, between individuality and community, between limits and possibilities. The show is driven by the poetic impulse of life, the physical prowess of the circus and its humour, at once serious and light-hearted. Entering Cirkopolis is all about letting go and allowing yourself to be borne aloft by hope”, explains Cirque Éloize’s Cirkopolis Artistic Director and Co-Director Jeannot Painchaud.

“I am proud to present this iconic show at the prestigious Royal Opera House Muscat. We aim to provide the audience in Oman with a poetic and unforgettable experience while nurturing cultural connections and sparking dreams that transcend our imagination,” Painchaud emphasised.

A driving force in the circus art reinvention movement, Cirque Éloize has been creating award-winning entertainment content for nearly 25 years and ranks among the world’s leading contemporary circuses. Cirque Éloize has taken part in numerous prestigious international festivals and has enchanted both New York’s Broadway and London’s West End.

The Royal Opera House Muscat will be hosting its final shows of the 2023/24 season in May including an Homage to Maria Callas featuring mega opera stars Sonya Yoncheva and Leo Nucci on May 15th, their co-production of La Bohème with Opéra di Monte Carlo on May 16th and 18th and Scheherazade by Cairo Opera on 23rd and 24th May.
