New LPG Facility Commissioned in Dhofar by OQ

Salalah: OQ announced the commissioning of its latest Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) facility, sited at the Salalah Free Zone, neighbouring the Port of Salalah. With an investment of $ 826 Million, OQ – LPG is the first of its kind in Oman, with the capability to extract condensate and LPG (including Butane and Propane) from OQ’s gas network. This gives OQ – LPG the potential to create a new energy hub in Salalah, centred on economically viable production of LPG that can compete with rising demands – both locally and internationally, enhancing Oman’s status as an energy exporter.

New LPG Facility Commissioned in Dhofar by OQ

The state-of-the-art facility is compliant with the industry’s highest standards. It consists of an extraction plant, a fractionation facility, shipping and storage facilities, and an interconnected pipeline system. The plant is rated to produce 8 million cubic metres of Lean gas per day and has the capability to produce 304 Kilotons (KT) worth of LPG, 155 KT of Propane, 111 KT of Butane and, 38 KT of condensate products per annum.

Maintaining National goals, the project has been promoting In-Country Value (ICV) as, over $ 250 Million were spent with local SMEs and contractors. The facility will be completely up and running by mid – May 2021.
