Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has granted patents to two devices honed and crafted in the Sultanate. This includes a device that generates energy from water molecules and an emergency device for paramedics to potentially reduce fatalities.
His Excellency Qais bin Mohammad Al-Yousef, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, handed over the patents to the inventors.
The two patents come as a part of the Ministry’s efforts to create a competitive business environment for the private sector that contributes to the development of the national economy.
The inventors of the gadgets are Dhahi Bin Jamal Bin Hilal Al Barwani who developed the energy-generating device and Eng. Ali Bin Salem Al Busaidi who developed the emergency gadget for paramedics.
Eng. Khalid bin Hamoud Al Hinai, the Director of the National Intellectual Property Office at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said that the Ministry plays a major role in spreading knowledge of intellectual property rights and providing services related to encouraging, facilitating and registering patent applications and focusing on inventions that have technical characteristics that address problems related to meeting market needs.
Eng. Khalid explained that the device invented by Dhahi Al Barwani is groundbreaking as it helps in the nation’s fight in reducing dependence on non-renewable energies. This will also aid in the reduction of the cost of production of various materials.
While more details on the working of the device and whether it uses water as a catalyst haven’t been revealed to the media, it is understood that the device will convert water molecules to energy.
Meanwhile, the second device is an emergency device that can be used by paramedics to reduce acute injuries in emergencies. As per Eng. Khalid, the device can connect or pair to a group of different rescue devices for emergency cases in addition to allowing paramedics to access the accident site in the shortest possible time.
