Port Of Salalah Ranks Second Among Most Efficient Ports Worldwide

The Port of Salalah bagged second prize among global ports in the Container Ports Performance Index (CPPI) 2021 issued by Standard and Poor’s (S&P) Global Market Intelligence Agency.

The Port of Salalah had taken sixth place in the CPPI in 2020.

S&P listed the performance ratings of the 100 top global ports after collecting performance timestamp data from 164,500 visits to ports worldwide.

The data indicated that it had taken into account 257.4mn container freights of 826 stations and 371 ports, before making the ratings accordingly.

Port of Salalah has been operating since November 1998 and is recognised globally as a leading transhipment hub positioned among the world’s top ports. It continues to play a vital role in the economic future of the Sultanate of Oman.

The port is partly owned and managed by APM Terminals, one of the largest container terminal operators in the world.

Strategically located at the major East-West Shipping Lane, the Port of Salalah is viewed as the region’s best-located port in order to access the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and East Africa.
