UNICEF Lauds Oman’s Successful Conduct of Census 2020

    UNICEF, on May 16th, lauded the successful conduct of Census 2020 by Oman, in spite of the devastation wreaked by the pandemic.

    The Sultanate’s census calculated the total population, residences, and establishments. The results were endorsed by His Majesty, Haitham Bin Tarik, The Sultan of Oman.

    The E–Census showcased the population of Oman had grown to 4,471,148 as of the 12th of December, 2020.

    In a letter sent to the National Centre of Statistics and Information (NCSI) by UNICEF, the UNICEF praised the Sultanate stating, “We congratulate you on the success of the Electronic Census 2020. The availability of complete, accurate, and up-to-date information is an essential criterion for developing policies aimed to enhance the welfare of children and youth in the Sultanate.”

    UNICEF further commended the NCSI for the abundant, up – to–date and precise information provided and ascribed it to be “a wealth of information covering all sectors.”

    UNICEF noted the gravity of the situation caused by the pandemic and, the stellar achievement by NCSI in conducting the E–Census stating, “Despite the challenges, the Sultanate conducted Census 2020 as scheduled and published its results in record time, namely within 48 hours from the cut-off date, the 12th of December, when all data was scheduled to be handed over to the authorities concerned.”
