Urban Planning Forum Explores Regional, Development Projects For ‘October Of Planning’

Activities of the ‘October Forum on Urban Planning’ began today at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC), with the participation of specialists, CEOs of related projects, corporate representatives and students of schools and colleges.

The two-day forum, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, seeks to enhance the economic, social and health aspects of urban planning for the sake of humanising cities.

It lays raises awareness about climate change and its impact on urban planning. It is an opportunity to exchange expertise and study global experiences to ensure the sustainability of the goals of Oman Vision 2040. It also reviews regional projects and empowers environmental sustainability.

Sayyid Ibrahim Said al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, said that the Ministry’s call to governorates to participate in the forum affirms the significance of urban planning in economic development and environmental sustainability.

Urban Planning Undersecretary Dr Mohammed Ali al Mutawa said that the forum caps up the activities undertaken by different governorates. He added that the ‘October of Planning’ is a global event sponsored by the United Nations (UN).

More than 10 speakers take turns in elucidating the importance of the themes of the forum. They submit 14 research papers on life quality in sustainable communities that prosper as a result of proper urban planning, management of hazards and development projects catering to spatial dimensions.

The forum seeks to achieve community participation in raising awareness about urban planning, the realisation of aspirations of communities for better future lifestyles, and the engagement of youth, as well as institutions, in the process of urban planning.
