Following the success of COP21, the UN Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference held in Paris in December 2015, the sustainability industry in the Middle East is set to gain prominence through 2016. In light of these developments, the Alabbar Energy & Sustainability Group (AESG) expects to further extend its regional footprint by playing a pivotal role in providing sustainability consultancy services to leading government and enterprise institutions, particularly in the Oil & Gas sector, across the GCC.
An emerging trend in the Middle East has been the growing interest of the Oil & Gas sector in sustainability. “As the Oil & Gas sector is one of the industry’s most closely associated with climate change, the industry globally is taking a leadership role in energy management strategies. AESG has been working closely with this sector and implemented a number of projects for the oil and gas operating companies in Abu Dhabi which seek to maximise energy efficiency,” said Al Abbar. For example, the UAE government is eager to position the country as a global leading ‘Green Economy’ and to implement green growth initiatives such as the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy.
