IWC Schaffhausen celebrated the horological heritage of the Sultanate of Oman with a special exhibition at the luxury watch and jewellery boutique, Mistal, this week [November 9].
The announcement of the exhibition comes after the recent unveiling of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition ‘Sultanate of Oman’ (IW387910) to mark the country’s 51st National Day on 18 November 2021.
In a showcase that will take over the first floor of the vast Mistal showroom, historical IWC timepieces belonging to private Omani watch collectors and dating back to the 1970’s will be on display. The exhibition pays homage to the rich heritage of IWC’s long-standing relationship with Oman, one that dates back nearly a century.
In February 1974, current member of IWC’s Board of Directors Hannes Pantli, visited the country for the first time and had the honour of meeting His late Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Bin Taimur Al Said. This was the beginning of a remarkable relationship between IWC Schaffhausen and the nation of Oman.
Since then, Hannes Pantli has regularly visited the Sultanate, and IWC has created special watch sets for the country. Now, over 40 years after his first visit, Hannes Pantli will be heading to Oman again to open the special exhibition on 7 November, ahead of the National Day celebrations.
Watch enthusiasts and aficionados in Oman will be able to view the timeless IWC pieces at their leisure throughout the month of November and explore the historical mechanics of each piece. Some of the pieces on display will be historical watches with complications along with jewellery and accessory sets.
