Saudi Arabia Taps Oman’s Experience In Administrative Records-Based Census

Oman’s technology-led strategy to build the nation’s census is going beyond borders with Saudi Arabia tapping into the Sultanate’s experience in compiling data.

During a meeting held via video conferencing today, the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) highlighted Oman’s experience in implementing census within the Sultanate.

It explained that the process espoused by Oman is an established global model for shifting from traditional census based on field surveys to census based on national administrative records.

The NCSI referred to the correlation of administrative records, the use of categories, auditing and harmonisation, how clashes between administrative records can be rectified, and how technical support must be extended to administrative records, among other issues.

The meeting was held as part of efforts to exchange expertise and study the best practices in the field of statistics.

Census 2020 constituted a turning point in Oman’s experience in conducting censuses.
