ESO Launches ‘Ecological Footprint’ Themed Campaign In 21 Schools Across The Country

As part of its ongoing Education Program, the Environment Society of Oman (ESO) in partnership with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), launched its ‘Ecological Footprint’ theme to educate school children on the importance of preserving the environment. With the help of its volunteers, ESO reached out to 21 government schools around the Sultanate and provided students with a presentation detailing simple behaviors that affect the environment and how to protect natural resources. The presentations were then followed by recycling activities to provide the students with insight into how their everyday actions can have a major impact on the world around them.

Jawaher Al Ghafri, Education Coordinator, said, “We believe that building a more sustainable future begins with raising awareness, and with this theme we are targeting the youth of today. To preserve the environment and prepare the next generation for their role as stewards of Oman’s natural wonders, it is important that we do our utmost to educate them on how the simplest activities can have an impact on the environment.”

The ESO’s Themed Education Program began in 2015 and has since covered the three themes, ‘Energy Saving’, ‘Oman’s Biodiversity,’ and ‘Ecological Footprint’.  The 4th theme will be ‘Green Schools’ which will be held later on this year to continue the program’s mission in empowering thousands of students aged between 11 and 14 years old with knowledge of conservation techniques, sustainable practices, climate change and the importance of biodiversity.
